You make your point with utmost conviction Fr. Warner. However like every human being, both of us are not infallible. The choice that one has is to read your post above and denigrate the so called home-baked theologians. The more informed choice one has, to my mind, is actually taking the position of truth. You may ask what is the position of truth. Since the truth is infallible, God the Almighty has started revealing himself again. Reference https://www.youtube.com/@missionofdivinemercy
Now there are many who say “oh but this is private revelation” and dismiss these. This is then used to dismiss the so-called old signs and expressions of the covenant and institute new signs and expressions of the covenant, which you are trying to justify. I find it preposterous that when the Mother of Jesus and ours, speaks directly in places like Fatima/Lourdes, many tend to dismiss this as private revelation to propagate these new signs and expressions. I shudder to think what will happen of us who reject what Our Lady or Her Son has revealed to us in these private revelations. A way of life has been revealed in Fatima and I have till date not heard any one proclaim it from the pulpit. The only ones doing it are what you call home-baked theologians.
We know the disaster that Vatican II has brought about with Novus Ordo. Things are only getting worse by the day. It is unfortunate that voices like your’s with posts like these, insinuate that the faithful should just keep quiet and watch what’s happening. Today all the Leaders of the World who have tried to stop catastrophes by adopting these so called sustainable development methods have not succeeded. The world just suffers rains, floods, droughts, etc where and when it should not and vice-versa. Crime is rampant. How I wish the highest echelons of the Catholic Church had said, “you have tried everything and let us now use our way” and use the “our way”, which is consecration of Russia in the manner (‘the’ is being deliberately used here) Our Lady had ordered in Fatima. I am absolutely sure, the world would be a great place to live in.
No where have i even remotely insinuated the laity should keep quiet rather my posts have always questioned why our laity do not speak out. The post covers the ‘home baked theologians’ on the left and the right. Having said that, the tradition of the Church does not limit itself to some views but all views. I have not always agreed with our Holy Father and that is how we should address him (Not as Francis as many do). In my view his often ‘incomplete’ views have not reiterated Church teaching with pastoral position. However to bring into question his legitimacy is blasphemy. I do not hear voices on the right every condemn such talk. As I said, the Church belongs to Christ not to any human element. I do hope you have read the next days reflection to.
Thank you for your frankness. It takes time to articulate your views and I appreciate your thoughts. God bless you and God bless the Catholic Church with lay faithful like you who lend your voice to issues and do so respectfully.
Yes, it does sound familiar. A lot of divisive opinions in the Church hierarchy today, not to mention opinionated lay people as well. Is it wrong to have an opinion? True, we have been raised with a sturdy respect for the Pope but that respect is waning, among the clergy as also the laity. It’s worrisome, it’s puzzling. If even the Cardinals today are questioning the Pope, does it mean the Pope is not being led by the Holy Spirit, or the questioning Cardinals? The issues raised by some Cardinals regarding Amoris Laetitia have still not been addressed, or have they?
