The Faithfulness and Fervour level of this unnamed Woman and her 7 sons is truly admirable and a shining example of the courage and grace God Himself endows upon His Faithful to face the cruelties of the wicked.
As we fall woefully short of such a level of Faithfulness, I humbly pray for same…
Thnkyou & God Bless You Fr. Warner
The faith of the mother is incredible. Almost impossible. Every time I heard this passage at Mass I would thank God for the gift of faith but never asked for such deep and unshakeable faith for myself.
Today, as I read your reflection Fr Warner, a couple of statements suddenly made a lot of sense. We ‘know’ so many things intellectually but suddenly you ‘know’ them deep inside.
That is what happened with me today and I want share the statements.
1. Faith in the resurrection cancels all fears of earthly death for the faithful.
2. The likes of Antiochus and his ideology do not win the day.
3. God disciplines the faithful, but never withdraws mercy.
I’m going to spend some more time in thinking and praying about them.
Thank you, Fr Warner.
The Book of Maccabees tells the story of an unnamef mother with her seven sons who show extraordinary courage in the face of persecution, as they hope in the Lord. They hope that God will raise them from the dead. They stand out as shining stars worthy of remembrance because of their faithfulness to God and the Torah..
This story challenges us in our meditation.Do we cling to worldly gòods or spiritual goods like obeying God’s word and hoping in him? Do we fear the Lord or fear loosing material goods and comforts? If we hope in the Lord we will fear displeasing him. Secondly can we face trials and persecutions trusting that God can turn all things for our Good….( Roman 8:28)
We should humbly ask God to fill us with courage , hope and faithfulness to hold on to his word no matter whatever trials and challenges come our way.
Thankyou Fr. Warner …
